Something to share
Saturday, April 28, 2007

My friend Chuhui, sent an email of a meaningful story. I guess I could share with my friends through my blog. Here it goes..

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water, at the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do. After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?" "That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."
Each of us has our own unique flaws. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.
SO, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path!

Found a job
Thursday, April 12, 2007

I was searching for a job frantically just few days ago.

I approached my agent on that eventful day and he told me he got an interview for me later at 5.30pm. I look at my watch, realised that I got 30min to go from Orchard to Toa Payoh. Haha more than enough time I assumed. In the end, I went the whole HDB Hub to look for OUB call center for the interview. It was last minute, I'd no preparation and no idea what I'm going through. What I know is, the job is $6.8/hour and a month I can earn around $1600.

I was called for a group interview with another two guys. These two lady interviewers look very stern. Dunch know if they fake it but oh well. This lady ask few questions like..

"Tell me more about yourself"
"What are your strength and weakness?"
"Why do you think you fit for this job; OUB Customer Service?"
"What's the 2 most important conditions for Customer Service?"

It's quite a standard set of interview questions, but guess what? It's my FIRST time going through it -_-.

When I thought it was over, they say there's a roleplay. I won't describe the roleplay in details but it's more of how you answer your customer's enquiry and their doubts towards OUB promotions and services. At the end of the interview, they tell us that they'll inform our agents for the results.

On the same evening, my aunt called me. I was quite shocked oO
"Boi ah, I'm looking for you"
"Eh I got an admin job for you in my company. Wanna work under me?"
"It's $8/hour but you need to file, pack sample and etc."
"I'm very fierce one, you want?"
The following day, I was preparing for work to my first ever part-time job -

Office Administration at Suntec Tower 4
I realised that my aunt is actually their merchandise manager. And she needs my assistance for compiling of files, sample and sending documents. Finally, something gets moving in my life. Shall look for more excitements. ^^

Stop conceptualizing
Wednesday, April 04, 2007

I was probably dreaming for the past 21 years and only till recently then I was reminded by one of my primary classmates. I can sense that he was being kind in his words.

Jonathan reminded, "Stop conceptualizing your thoughts Kent, put them into actions"

Due to my poor knowledge on vocabulary, I was amazed by the word conceptualizing.
I ask him, "Jonathan, what do you mean by conceptualizing?"

His reply, "To form a kind of thoughts in the mind, it's good. But you need to realise it before you can see any results"

My interpretation to his explanation was, "Stop wasting your fucking time. Stop daydreaming. All you did about your ideas is plain talking, no ACTIONS. Wake up your fucking idea. You have great ideas, that's good. It's high time to realise it, set your priorities right. If you're not going to realise it now, then when?"

Well, thank you Jonathan. You are right.
